About this Retreat
Jay brings a depth of presence and facilitation informed from multiple western, eastern and indigenous wisdom traditions. Jay has decades of experience with sacred plant medicines, Red Road Ways, yogic traditions, permaculture, and community building.
He has been organizing and facilitating transformational retreats, educational programs, as well as larger community gatherings for over 20 years in the United States and internationally. Jay is also a certified fire walk instructor through Sundoor International, and is passionate about renewing Rites of Passage experiential programs such vision quests, medicine journeys, and deep nature immersion.
His path lead him to a life-changing journey with iboga, which set him on a path continuing to deepened his connection to this Medicine and its profound healing potential through multiple experiences as a participant, assistant, and guide. In 2024, he traveled to Gabon, West Africa — the ancestral home of Iboga, and was initiated into the Missoko Bwiti Tradition.
As a catalyst for transformational change, Jay is passionate about personal and community healing to create thriving, sustainable human settlements in harmony with Nature. Jay stewards a small farm and micro community where he is working to create a hub of regenerative agriculture, community, and green business that is thriving, ecologically regenerative, and socially responsible.
In 2023, Carmen's life underwent a profound transformation through an Iboga journey. What began as an exploration became a complete reconfiguration of her relationship with love, addiction patterns, and creative purpose. After this "defragmentation" of her brain, she completed a memoir titled "Don't Yell at Her!" (currently en route to being published).
Since her initial flood dose, Carmen has sat with Iboga multiple times, each experience deepening her connection with her authentic self. Her transition from participant to facilitator emerged naturally as she assisted with other retreats, developing the ability to hold space while others navigate their own profound inner journeys.
At Medicine Spirit retreats, Carmen brings her personal experience with profound transformation and her compassionate understanding of cyclical patterns to create bridges between participants' ceremonial experiences and their integration into everyday life.
Carmen believes in the power of each person's soul and creates a container where individuals can reconnect with their own innate wisdom. She considers it a profound honour to witness and support others as they journey with Iboga, whether they're seeking healing from specific patterns, searching for greater clarity, or feeling called to deepen their spiritual connection.

This Iboga retreat is hosted at a beautiful, rural retreat centre in the middle of lush forest and open fields located about an hour drive from Porto International Airport. Go swimming in a natural spring-fed pool, walk down forest paths to a small waterfall, and enjoy the classic European buildings. This space is ideal for ceremony, healing, and deep nature connection.

Day 1: Arrival & Grounding
Welcome to your Medicine Spirit journey. The first day focuses on settling in, building community, and preparing your mind, body, and spirit for the work ahead. Through gentle rituals, group sharing, and personalized preparation, we create a foundation of safety and connection.
Day 2: Ceremony
The heart of our retreat experience. After mindful preparation, we enter ceremony together, where experienced facilitators guide you through your Iboga journey with attentiveness and care. Our approach honors the medicine's wisdom while ensuring you feel supported at every step.
Day 3: Integration
Perhaps the most important day of your journey. Through carefully guided practices, we help you process, understand, and integrate your experience. This day includes both group sharing and personal reflection time, allowing insights to settle and take root. We also offer optional activities like hot spring visits, nature walks, and free movement.
Day 4: Embodiment & Community
Today focuses on embodying the wisdom gained and strengthening community bonds. Activities may include additional complementary ceremonies, creative expression, and practical discussions about bringing your insights back into everyday life.
Day 5: Closing & Departure
Before returning home, we gather for a final ceremony to honor your journey and set intentions for continued integration. You'll leave with specific tools and practices to continue your healing process.

Join us for 5 days of transformation in a beautiful retreat centre an hour outside Porto. Experience the profound healing potential of Iboga on forested grounds with gardens, a creek, waterfall and many sanctuaries—even swim in a natural swimming pool! This Iboga retreat is hosted at a beautiful village-style location on 30 hectares of partially forested land, an hour drive from Porto International Airport (from where we'll retrieve and return you). The retreat centre features both open and forested areas, beautiful gardens, a natural swimming pool (no chlorine), and a creek running through it. Enjoy a waterfall and excellent swimming holes as well. The site has wonderful facilities including main gathering spaces and cottages with private or shared rooms.
