Yansa Ji was born in Klungkung, Bali, in 1972. He first came across yoga through a book in the sixth grade and tried some of it on his own, but without a teacher he didn’t take it much further at the time. Before yoga became central to his life, he lived with serious chronic pain and needed daily medication to manage it. A doctor once suggested a colonoscopy, but Yansa chose to look into fasting instead, a decision that led him to his mentor, Dada Vibhakarananda. Under him, both his health and his understanding of yoga changed completely. He was later initiated into the Ananda Marga community and completed his 200-hour teacher training under Master Manohara and Dada Vibhakarananda directly. That personal journey through pain and recovery still shapes how he teaches, he pays as much attention to a student’s state of mind as their posture. He now leads yoga teacher training programmes at Bali Yoga Retreats.
