HOW TO GET TO THE RETREAT CENTER:
Once you have your flight tickets booked and your arrival time, send us your flight itinerary and we will arrange pickup for you at the airport. Be sure to have whatsapp downloaded so we can get you in contact with the driving service. Once at the airport, you will find an atm where you can get enough cash for the driver, for dining out if you desire, for souvenirs, and extra just in case. Guatemala currency is in Quetzales (currently 1 US dollar is worth 7.7 Q) From the airport you will go to Panajachel which will take 3.5 to 4 hours and will cost around 60 US dollars or 500Q.
Plan to arrive at La Aurora International Airport (GUA) in Guatemala City, Guatemala, on or before November 11.
If you choose to arrive early, please ensure you have ample time to reach Jaibalito by 4 PM on November 11.
We will begin our time together with an opening ceremony on Monday evening, following dinner.
Upon arrival in Guatemala City, a driver will be arranged to pick you up and take you on a 3-hour journey to Panajachel, a town on the shores of Lake Atitlán. The driver will drop you off at the boat dock, where you will catch a boat headed toward either San Marcos or Santa Cruz (both routes will get you there). Let the boat driver know you are going to Jaibalito, one of the smallest villages on the lake.
Once you arrive at the Jaibalito dock, you'll see a few restaurants where you can stop to use the restroom or grab a refreshment if needed. From there, it's about a 20-minute walk to the retreat, and a guide will meet you to show you the way.
The walk up to the retreat can be demanding for some, so wear comfortable shoes and take your time—it’s uphill, and the hike can take anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes, depending on how many breaks you need. There’s no rush, and our guardian and helpers will assist with carrying your bags for a small tip.
