About this Retreat
I am the Quetzalcoatl Executive Director and Principal Maestra at the Escuela de Curanderismo. I have been a Board member or Director of various non-profit organizations for 35 years. I have a background in science as an Ayurvedic physician and as a technical writer in television and radio.
For the past 20 years I have been working full-time as a Curandera and Ayurvedic physician. I support the goal of this non-profit to share these healing traditions and the plant medicines used, with our communities.
Laura brings her love and experience as a trained pre-natal yoga teacher, human experience researcher, and plant whisperer to the Escuela de Curanderismo and the Quetzalcoatl Temple. As a graduate of the Escuela and a dedicated community gardening supporter, she aims to help others connect to their individual and collective roots through movement, platicas, and energetic limpias.
As a dual Costa Rican and US citizen, Laura seeks to bridge nature-based practices of Curanderismo with human-centered thinking frameworks to serve various audiences at the physical, mental, and spiritual level. She also leverages her 15 year experience as a higher education instructor to guide students through the Escuela as a co-teacher alongside Athena.

Our organization, Quetzalcoatl Temple, make ups the Toltecayotl-the art of intentional doing, a guide for the transformation of individuals and society. We conduct research on medicinal plants, host community garden plant give-aways, and offer in-person apprenticeship retreats that convey the unique and powerful Latin American system of healing known as Curanderismo.
Our apprenticeship retreats emphasize the cultures, language, and traditions of the Maya and Naga Maya and convey these with appreciation and respect. This four-part, in-person apprenticeship program is designed to help students develop the intuitive abilities of the healer and gain the knowledge of thousands of years of human interaction with plants, food, prayer, and energy work.

Schedule
Our 5 day apprenticeship retreat begins by opening sacred space as a group to embed ourselves in intentional learning and the sacred practice of Curanderismo.
Daily activities begin at 8am with the awakening of the self, preparing the physical body through yoga asana practices and short meditation sessions prior to diving into medicinal and energetic work.
A breakfast break at 9am allows students to continue nourishing their body in the outdoor kitchen and feeding their unique digestive agni fire prior to engaging in daily healing and wellness topics and related shamanic activities.
Lunch hour at noon offers students the opportunity to refresh and reset their bodies through food and Ayurvedic diets with the option to embed themselves within nature around the retreat center's property.
Daily activities are complete by 4:30p. Each retreat will include one evening fire ceremony during the 5 day gathering.

Directions
Past apprentices either choose to drive to Silver City or fly into the EL Paso Texas airport to reach the retreat location. Car rentals are available for the two hour drive to Silver City from standard airport car rental agencies. Students are encouraged to carpool if possible, as there is no public transportation or taxi services available near the Gila Forest.

Our apprenticeship center is located within a 13 acre property near the outskirts of the Gila National Forest. Nature and outdoor activities take place in the nearby hill tops and forested areas. The property includes a dedicated Escuela building stocked with herbs, Ayurvedic remedies, and ceremonial objects that are used throughout our retreats. A covered outdoor living space offers students the ability to reflect, cook meals, and practice healing activities comfortably yet in nature.

- Please book your own airfare if not in the Silver City, NM area
- Car or tent camping on the apprenticeship property is available for $10 a night (outhouse, toilets, showers, and full outdoor kitchen available for use). Nearby AirBnB's are also available.
