Picture your first morning: breakfast at Tribo da Praia Eco Hostel, the smell of coffee, pastries from the bakery around the corner, and the sound of Ferrel waking up. Within the hour, you're in a wetsuit, boards loaded onto the van, heading to whichever beach is working best that day.
Peniche is one of Europe's most consistent surf destinations, a peninsula with beaches facing multiple directions, which means there's almost always a wave suited to your level. Whether it's your very first time standing on a board or you've surfed before and want to improve, the coaches at Surf It Easy will meet you exactly where you are.
Afternoons at Raizes are yours. Some days that means a surfskate session in Ferrel's streets, working on your technique away from the water. Our surf retreat offers 2 surfskate lessons, with the option to book more. Other days it means a long lunch at a local café, a walk along the cliffs, or simply lying in the sun doing absolutely nothing.
Two evenings during the week, the whole group comes together for dinner. These aren't formal affairs, think local food, cold drinks, and the kind of conversation that happens when a group of people has spent a week doing something they love together. This is where "come as a stranger, leave as a friend" stops being a tagline and starts being true.
Ferrel itself is a big part of what makes this week feel different from a standard surf camp. It's a small surf village, unhurried, unpretentious, with bakeries and seafood restaurants and a café culture that invites you to slow down.
Lisbon is an hour away if you need a city fix. Óbidos and Nazaré are close enough for a day or afternoon trip. But most guests find they don't want to leave Ferrel at all.
Raizes is for people who want more than surf lessons. It's for people who want a week that actually changes the rhythm of their life, even if just for a few days.

Schedule

Each day follows a relaxed rhythm: morning surf, free afternoons, and shared evenings. No two days are exactly the same, as we always choose the best surf spot based on the conditions. However, the overall structure remains consistent, so you always know what to expect.

Most activities are included, with some afternoons intentionally left free for you to rest, explore, or join optional add-ons. At the start of the retreat, you will receive the full schedule for surf and surfskate sessions based on the week’s forecast.

Below is a sample day-by-day outline. Please note that timings are flexible and may shift depending on conditions and surf locations.

Directions

Book your flight to Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) in Lisbon, Portugal.

Distance: ~65–70 km
Travel time: about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on transport
Why it’s best: It’s the closest major international hub with the most flight options and easiest connections to Peniche/Ferrel
Airport transfer is included. You will have to book your own flights. If you decide to get your own transport, you can get to Peniche by bus from Lisbon and other cities in Portugal, and we will pick you up from the bus station. If you are arriving by car, the hostel is located in the center of Ferrel, and there is plenty of on-street free parking available.

Accommodation

We offer both shared rooms or private double rooms. The shared room has a maximum capacity of 4 guests. All beds have their own privacy curtain, individual bedside light, and plug socket, so your space feels personal even in a shared room. Bathroom with a shower located just outside the room. Storage space for personal belongings. Towels, hair dryer and shower products provided. The double rooms, can have a single or double occupancy, Comfortable double bed, sink inside the room, and a shared bathroom located just outside. Each side of the bed has its own bedside light and plug socket. Plenty of storage for personal belongings, and towels, hair dryer, and shower products provided.
