Root & Wisdom Retreat

When I started the process of preparing for my first retreat with Root and Wisdom, I immediately felt like I was in safe and capable hands.

Before we even officially scheduled my first iboga ceremony with them, we spoke several times on the phone to get to know each other and for me to ask any questions. After we set a date, we had remote coaching sessions, remote breath work, and a detailed workbook they created for me to fill out. They also included post ceremony coaching sessions and breath work with the package, which was very helpful during those first few months post ceremony.

I’ve been on several plant medicine retreats before this, but I had never felt so taken cared of and safe as I did preparing for my iboga ceremony with Troy and Jo. That sense of care and safety continued throughout my first iboga ceremony with them. This ceremony was just my husband and myself, and we immediately felt like Jo and Troy were treating us with the level of love and care they would a family member. As we recovered post ceremony, they brought us food, tea, sea moss, electrolytes, and anything else we requested. Overall, it was an incredible first time experience, and so when Troy invited me to come to a women’s retreat I jumped on board.

This retreat experience was next level. They picked an amazing location connected to nature (the first ceremony we stayed at a friend’s house). The food was all organic, colorful, well rounded, and made with love. While we had several things planned such as yoga, meditation, sound healing, a spiritual bath, group circle, individual sessions, and of course iboga ceremonies, we had plenty of time to rest and do our own thing. The schedule had a great flow and it did not feel over-scheduled.

I was almost surprised at how ready I felt to return to ceremony with iboga because my previous plant medicine experiences (namely ayahuasca) were often filled with fear and trepidation. I realize now I did not feel fear because I already knew thr other women and I there were in safe and capable hands. I knew and completely trusted that Troy would not over-serve me or anyone else, and that the energy of the space was protected and sealed.

All in all, this second experience with Root and Wisdom inspired me to completely change my life. I’ve gained the understanding and wisdom of what it means to feel liberated from being addicted to suffering, and the lessons I’ve learned feel solidified in my system. That isn’t to say I don’t experience life difficulties, anxious thoughts, or big emotions, but in my iboga ceremonies I set out to create a new default of observing and loving every experience. Every day since has been a practice of loving awareness, and I’m very grateful for the lessons the incredible humans of Root and Wisdom have taught me. I’m grateful for the medicine of Iboga and the Bwiti which have enabled me to live my life feeling full of love and freedom.

I will always highly recommend anyone to work with Root and Wisdom as they operate with an extremely high level of integrity, honesty, and care.

Troy and Jo have helped me so much and in so many ways, and working with them has been the single, most impactful, positive experience of my life.

I connected with Jo and Troy during a challenging and dark time in my life, and went to a retreat they held shortly after. i left the retreat completely at peace and feeling whole in myself, comfortable being fully with myself and with the world, and overflowing with love. that carried on for many months after, and i would say that as a result of this experience, life will never have to get as dark again.

through their wisdom and guidance i was able to see how beautiful and wonderful my life could be. i will forever be grateful to both of them for all the ways they have helped me connect with who i really am, and see the world as it is.

even reflecting on my experience with them both now, i feel more calm, grounded, and positive. they are fountains of wisdom, love, and care. troy and jo are some of the most special people i have ever met, and i hope to maintain a relationship with them forever. i am so grateful for all they have done for me and others, and for making the world a better place.

I cannot recommend Root and Wisdom more! Troy and Jo are amazing and made us feel very safe and supported during our retreat. I was very new to the medicine and had a lot of questions, but they took the time to explain everything and that made all the difference.

As to the medicine... Wow! I had an amazing experience and was feeling very "stuck" at that time of my life. The medicine allowed me to see and accept all of the healing I had accomplished up to that point. This shift in perspective allowed me to set down my burden and move forward with energy and a clean slate.

Since our retreat, my partner and I have accomplished so much. We got married, started a business, and published a book. None of this would have been possible without Troy and Jo's help.

Troy and Jo are amazing!! They provided insight and guidance during some key moments of my life. We attended a retreat where they facilitated and it was a transformative experience - literally life changing! I greatly appreciate how easy they are to talk to about deeply personal issues, and I love their approach that we aren't broken, we just need to remember our state of wellness and being whole. Troy and Jo were referred through someone that had a retreat with them already.

Preparation started with completing a brief questionnaire and two only sessions (one with Jo, one with Troy).

I had two ceremonies iboga and tepezcohuite. Iboga is a tree of knowledge, and the second is a tree of life.

On the day of the ceremony you fast and you are advised to stop drinking alcohol or coffee few days before.

Ceremony takes time overnight. You sit around in a circle and Troy opens ceremony with brief intro and prayer, you take medicine and wait about an hour for it took an effect.

It felt light buzzing was taking over my body, as I went to lay down and closed eyes mosaic images start to appear.

It felt like i was a playstation that was resetting over and over again in the beginning, this happened few times. Few hours later i felt a bit nauseas. Purge actually made me fill really good and relaxed after, it felt like some toxic substances and emotions left my body. I could then talk to the medicine and ask my questions and most times receive answers in a very clear format. However some were a bit cryptic.

My most unique experience was meeting my own twin and addressing that unconditional self love - which was my main intention for the ceremony.

It felt like a delirious dream, though you are present at all times, you feel all the surroundings. When you open your eyes world looks the same but a bit smudgy.

Closer to the end i even felt a bit sleepy and dose off briefly. Ceremony closed at around 6 am and we went to bed.

Next day after ceremony we got light snacks and were able to chat about the experience and Troy and Jo helped me to understand visions and make sense of the begging, Identify insights.

Right away your entire body feels different in a good way. You feel relaxed, like you slowed down a bit. This is reflection day. I personally went to seat by the water and was able to observe energies floating. It was magical experience.

Second ceremony takes time in the day time a is very brief. I recommend both.

Four months passed the experience I am more centered, more gentle and calm in my reactions. My bad habits improved, though its a mild and gradual process not overnight.

I choose myself and whats good for me, better relationships and setting up boundaries myself including.

Also I find it easier to control eating and in my better shape.
