The 30 sqm old barn has been renovated into a cozy, insulated activity room perfect for gentle activities, sound healing journeys and yoga. Downstairs the venue also features a sitting/reading room with a kitchenette and fireplace, laundry and 3 nicely decorated bathrooms and showers with hot and cold water. The upper floor, where the 2 rooms are, offers a large terrace facing south-.east where guests can hang out.

The beauty of communal meal preparation is part of this retreat. There will be a stock of both staples and fresh local produce and we will be able to share cooking together on a rotational basis.

We are very near the Serra da Gardunha and the Serra da Estrela national park.
Serra da Gardunha is a mountain range located in central Portugal, part of the larger Central Mountain System (Serras Centrais). It is situated primarily in the Beira Baixa region, between the municipalities of Castelo Branco and Fundão, in the district of Castelo Branco. The range is characterized by its rugged terrain, scenic beauty, and diverse flora and fauna.
Serra da Gardunha is a strikingly beautiful and ecologically rich mountain range in central Portugal. Its dramatic landscapes, rich biodiversity, and cultural heritage make it a unique area for both exploration and relaxation. Whether you’re interested in outdoor activities, history, or simply enjoying the tranquility of nature, Serra da Gardunha offers something for everyone.
Our village
Mata da Rainha is a forested area located near the town of Fundão, in the central region of Portugal. This lush, natural space is part of the broader landscape of the Serra da Gardunha mountain range, which is known for its picturesque beauty and rich biodiversity. The name "Mata da Rainha" translates to "Queen’s Forest," a reference to its historical and possibly royal connections, although the exact origins of the name are not entirely clear.
If you’re near Fundão, Mata da Rainha offers an excellent opportunity to connect with nature and experience the scenic beauty of Portugal’s central region. Whether you're hiking, picnicking, or simply appreciating the landscape, the forest provides a quiet escape into the countryside.
Directions
You can fly into Lisbon or Porto (both roughly 2,5 hrs away). From there, you can either rent a car, or take a train or a bus to Fundao or Castelo Branco (check the rather good Rede Expressos network and schedule). Upon request, we can assist with pick up or taxi service from Fundao.
Another option is to fly into Madrid (4 hrs) or Seville (5 hrs), rent a car to reach us and combine your retreat with a little bit of a road trip across the scenic Extremadura region.
