A Yoga, Breathwork, and Sound Immersion

“Sound reveals where words dissolve.”
- inspired by Hazrat Inayat Khan

Step beyond the familiar and enter a realm of resonance, presence, and deep listening. This three-day immersive retreat invites you to slow time, soften the body, and open into expanded states of awareness through the alchemy of yoga, breathwork, meditation, and sound.

Each day unfolds as a carefully curated journey—flowing vinyasa to awaken vitality, restorative practices to nourish the nervous system, and immersive sound experiences designed to quiet the mind and attune the body to subtle frequencies. Through yogic sound meditation and expansive Deep Space sound baths, vibration becomes a guide—supporting release, clarity, and a felt sense of inner vastness.

This retreat offers a balance of guided practice and open space. Between sessions, you’ll have time to wander forest trails, enjoy the spa, rest deeply, or simply sit with the beauty of the surrounding mountains. Nature, silence, and community weave together to create a container for genuine renewal.

Rooted in warmth, ease, and a spirit of curiosity, this gathering is designed to support physical restoration, emotional balance, and mental spaciousness—without striving or pressure. Come as you are. All levels of experience are welcome.

This is an invitation to listen more deeply—to your breath, your body, and the quiet intelligence within.

Testimonials

“I’m not sure where to start because I didn’t really know what a “sound bath” would be all about but I knew I needed it. It was one of the most transcendental experiences I’ve ever had. I’m not sure what the right words are but to keep it simple- John’s intuition and musical talents took me to a part of my brain and body I didn’t know was there but it was so familiar and comforting I didn’t want to leave. Do yourself a favor- book an appointment with John. Can’t wait to do this again!
Cheers, PS- my neck and back feel better too"

-Jaimie

“A friend and I had a Sound Bath session with John, and we were utterly astounded at what a remarkable experience it was.
The setting was a spectacular light-filled space. The array of different Tibetan singing bowls and other instruments was immense.
The soundscape he created, the moods and landscapes he evoked, and the attention to detail were profound.
I would highly recommend someone do this.  It's a molecular Massage, a healing modality and a profound experience of spiritual Ascension.”

-Rebecca Rentoul

“Experiencing a sound therapy session with John was life-altering. During our session I was overcome by a feeling of calm and oneness with the world around me. After our session I felt as if a fog had lifted, a fog that I had been so immersed within that I didn’t even realize I was in a fog until it was lifted. I can’t recommend sound therapy with John enough.”

-John C.

"John's sound session was epic. The experience was both interesting and healing. John uses a multitude of instruments to create an all-encompassing sound bath that reverberates through the room and your body at the same time. He is extremely well versed in the background, history and healing properties of the instruments he uses and it shows. Highly recommend!"

Beautiful and Sacred Visit
The architecture of Kevin Courtney's teachings and the structure of his fellow teachers' offerings was truly brilliant and got us into a place where, by the end, you are as tapped in as you can possibly be.

The beauty and sacredness of the land on which Menla is sits is very much a part of the experience and deeply woven into the fabric.

The grounds, lodging, staff, and delicious meals were all exquisite as well. We felt cared for and held in every way.

Retreat at Menla
My retreat experience at Menla was wonderful.

The teacher was knowledgeable, loving, deeply committed to the path, well-spoken, prepared, and generous with course materials and the overall transmission.

The property, all of the meals, and rooms were handled with care and intentionally set.

The spa facility was gorgeous, but my experience with the practitioners were that they needed more training, to truly support guests. I was told I could have a bath and choose between three types. I was very excited to book in the bath that had local junipers from the area. The next day, leading up to this bath I excitedly told sangha this was what I was heading into, to steep in a bath with elements from the local forest, and how special that could be. When I showed up to my appointment, I was told that bath was actually not available and I should choose between two others. It was frustrating to choose one the day before, and show up 24 hours later to find out that type should not have been offered - I wished the staff had reached out to me at least several hours before, to tell me. I was also supposed to have a massage and was told by the front desk that I could customize that 60 minutes however I wanted on the day, however when I arrived at the session my therapist had a very anxious energy and when she asked about my requests I said I would like some reflexology in my hands and feet during the Swedish massage session, integrated in. She scolded me, saying she would touch my hands and feet but that if I had wanted any reflexology I should have booked the 90 minutes session she offered. I thought perhaps I misunderstood and I gave benefit of the doubt, trying to explain again to her I only wanted reflexology integrated at parts during, but then she told me this again stating I should have booked another reflexology session and she was only going to touch my hands and feet during - once I realized she was very caught up in another story... I quickly cancelled the massage, not wanting to get on the table with this sort of energy exchange. And I left the property to go take my flight home. The next day, I booked a massage at a wellness center in California, and that person provided the combo massage with reflexology, and with ease, very simply without any issues, as I had received with many other gifted massage practitioners countless times across other spas over the years…

To sum it up, Menla itself is a wonderful place, beautifully designed, intentionally curated, the food was prepared with so much love and intention, and the teachers gifts far surpassed anything I could have ever hoped for. I think there is room to improve the spa building experience, however the rest of the experience is wonderful, and I would absolutely return again. It is very special indeed, I felt truly held by the land and the teachings.
