Open new portals to creativity and collaboration amidst the planetary spheres of sound, music, and landscape.
In this interdisciplinary eco-arts residency, participants will be introduced to conceptual ideas about collaborating ethically with landscapes and soundscapes, and learn a variety of approaches for generating sound, music, text, and performance compositions with/in the local Cortes Island surroundings.
Participants will learn somatic/sonic practices for listening, sensing, and sounding with/in landscape. Through collaborative outdoor activities participants will generate performance scores as both place-mapping and place-making. Participants will also explore the ancient and magical practice of geo-divination as a practical tool for generating writing and performance ideas amidst the more-than-human natural world.
The power of listening will be explored, through daily outdoor walks, meditative techniques, and lo-fi recording practices that support listeners as they investigate and expand their human range of listening and hearing. Participants will be challenged to hear sound as if it were a visual art piece, observing each section of the piece sonically and playing with the texture and vision of the world around us.
With the gentle support of Rebecca and Edzi’u, participants will be invited into greater attention and connection to the more-than-human world around us. They will leave the residency with a renewed sense of the rich possibilities available for collaboration with/in our natural surroundings.

Testimonials
“As a meditative beat and ambient synths slowly drift past, spoken-word samples alternate with Edzi’u’s soaring, sublime vocals to create a multi-dimensional, multi-faceted work that is simultaneously cinematic and anthemic, thought-provoking and compelling, topical and timeless.” —Darryl Sterdan, The Tinnitist
"In Bruton’s “Faerie Ribbon,” it’s the composer’s own folk-ish, wordless singing and shy whistling that feels deliciously alien, limning elegantly proportioned lines and shapes...a solemn, melancholy reverie of unabashed beauty and deceptive simplicity." —Peter Margasak, Bandcamp Daily)
