Live in harmony with nature, the Ayurveda Way
Synchronize your life with nature's cycles for better health
Ayurveda is an ancient, 5,000 year-old health system from India and means the science or wisdom of life: Ayur (life) and Veda (study or knowledge). It's thought to be the oldest healing system in the world. The knowledge contained in Ayurveda encompasses the nature, scope, and purpose of life. It's the art of daily living. Ayurveda says that health encompasses every aspect of your life, such as physical, spiritual, emotional, mental, environmental, financial, vocational, relationships, and so on.

Ayurveda is a sister science with yoga. The reason for practicing Ayurveda, such as through food and lifestyle, is to create the right conditions for your body and life to create yoga, the union of self with the divine.
"Ayurveda gives us the guidelines for how to live our lives in a state of peace and happiness, how to create joy in our personal as well as social lives, and how to create balance, both within and without." From Ashtanga Hridaya, ancient text
Join certified Ayurvedic Health Coach and Forest resident Jeni Enns for a weekend to nourish the mind, body, and senses through theory, experiential practices, and time on the Forest's beautiful grounds. Together, in the company of a caring community, you will:

Learn the basics of Ayurveda, including the 5 elements and 3 doshas.
Discover your dosha and how Ayurveda can help you understand yourself better.
Create a plan for daily and seasonal self-care rituals that help you thrive throughout each season.
Learn natural beauty and self-care rituals that hold you and nourish you.
Eat healthy, Ayurvedically-balanced meals and cook a meal together that introduces you to the six tastes.
Drift off to restful sleep with yoga nidra.

Incorporating Ayurveda into your life can be done with simple, small shifts. It doesn't mean you have to cook like you're in India or necessarily be vegetarian. Ayurveda is as much about how and when something is eaten as it is about the food you eat. I'll teach you easy, modern-day ways to adjust and balance your lifestyle that doesn't mean massive, overwhelming shifts all at once.

Spring is a wonderful time of year to begin your Ayurvedic journey, shake off winter, and start detoxing.

Entering the Forest is a peaceful experience and you'll have the opportunity to meditate in a beautiful Meditation Chapel with large windows looking out into the woods. Other meditation areas include a traditional Zen Garden, a woodland labyrinth for walking meditation, and an underground meditation chamber (the Cave of the Mothers) with wonderful acoustics for chanting.

Our retreat center also has a trail system along wooded bluffs with views of Shell Lake and downtown Tulsa. You can rent a cabin to experience the peaceful setting overnight for your own personal retreat. Our rental rates include three meals a day in our dining room, where you'll eat alongside other guests and residents of our community. The Forest also offers a full range of programs and retreats on meditation and spiritual topics.

You have a range of options to experience meditation in a way that suits you. You might choose to join our resident community for meditation held Tuesday through Saturday at 7:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, or 4:45 p.m., and on Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in our Meditation Chapel. Here you'll experience a meditation of 25 to 45 minutes with others who can help guide you.

Or, you may wish to simply rake the Zen Garden as you contemplate the prayer flags in the trees overhead. If you prefer to move while meditating, walking the labyrinth or hiking the trails will give you a chance to reconnect with nature. The Cave of the Mothers provides you with a dark, quiet place where you will be amazed by the sound of your chanting reverberating all around you.

Unexpected gifts
When looking for a place to rest overnight while on a long car trip, we just wanted an alternative to a hotel. Forest of Peace sounded nice, but what we discovered was way more than "nice". We were blessed with a warm reception, opportunities to meditate, simple delicious food, trails to hike, a library to relish, and an interreligious atmosphere that was a gift to us (my husband and I are both serious about our faith but our religions are different). Our only regret is that we could not stay longer. To say it exceeded our expectations is an understatement!

Connection
The variety of activities during the recent retreat were wonderful! We experienced the sacred process of collecting gifts of love offered at the Forest over the past years and honoring them together. We cooked, ate, participated in a tea ceremony and had meditations daily. All the activities were optional, but too good to miss any of them. A joyous time full of rest and community at its finest.

Day of Zen with Tulsa Zen Sangha
This was my first time to participate in a Zen experience. It was very refreshing to see how being quiet and listening to my inner voice brings such peace.

Learning, laughter and Love
Learning about worldwide historic and cultural traditions is one of my passions. The Gaelic Traditional Festival at the Forest provided a relaxing atmosphere to learn as community, laugh as we experienced and participated in the cooking and Brigid’s cross making, and Love during the midnight lighting of the candle and meditations in the chapel, around the table at each meal and listening to the playing of the bagpipes. I hope the Forest expands offering this type of retreat. Unforgettable.

Powerful Meditation Retreat
New Years Eve: Under the ancient trees, I parked my car and quietly entered the Main House, then checked into a simple, comfortable cabin for the night. I took part in a community Peace Prayer service in the chapel, which has been hallowed over decades by the prayers of Benedictine nuns, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, Fr. Bede Griffiths and many other spiritual giants of our era. This night we prayed for every country of the world by name to be at peace. After prayers we feasted together and rang in 2024, then I retired to my cabin in the woods for a good night's sleep.
