About this Retreat
After 7 years of building an Environmental Lawyer career dealing with EU Affairs regarding energy matters in Brussels, Carla quitted this lifestyle to follow a profound calling to become a Death Doula. Her favourite Death Doula is Ayahuasca itself. Therefore in 2022, together with her husband Fred, Carla created Taozen with the aim of sharing sacred (plant) medicines with the world whilst respecting and collaborating with the indigenous communities that have preserved this ancient wisdom throughout the centuries.
Carla is now a certified psychedelic preparation & integration specialist that bridges science and spirituality. She uses dreamwork and Embodied Imagination, a technique influenced by Carl Jung's perspective on dreams as symbolic reflections of the self and the personal/collective unconscious. Given the remarkable similarities in the neural pathways and neurochemistry of brains that are either dreaming or having a psychedelic journey, Carla loves to employ dreamwork techniques to help people integrate their Ayahuasca journeys.
In 2020 she got her Yoga Teacher Training and she’s been teaching yoga ever since. You’ll find her guiding the yoga sessions at each Taozen retreat!
Carla is currently finalising her Priestesshood studies in an Ancient Egyptian Mystery School. Her focus areas include Shamanism, Reiki, Alchemical Elemental Healing, Qigong, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Astrology, Divination and Oracle Arts, Neteru training, Akashic Healing, Tarot, Gene Keys, Sacred Geometry, and Birth & Death Doula work, among others.
Fred is the Co-Founder of Taozen and a plant medicine advocate. Having personally and regularly witnessed the transformative power of entheogens for more than eight years, Fred’s mission is to help people alleviate any needless suffering they through responsible, intentional and reciprocal medicine work.
Knowing first-hand the effectiveness of both individual and collective healing, Fred brings his multi-faceted experience of psychedelic preparation, individual shadow work, grounded group integration, trauma-informed psychology and men’s circle facilitation in service to each and every Taozen guest.
As a keen student of the likes of Marc Aixalá, Kile M. Ortigo, Carl Jung, Dr. Gabor Maté, Richard Rudd, Robert Edward Grant, Paramahansa Yogananda, Seneca, David R. Hawkins M.D. Ph.D and many more, Fred blends his interests of timeless, ancient wisdom with modern, practical and evidence-based methods to ensure every Taozen guest feels prepared and supported throughout their entire journey. He is also a firm believer in the notion that everyone and everything can be a teacher for us, if we are open to this possibility and are willing to listen.
In addition to the in-person retreats and experiences, Fred’s proficiency for tech, marketing, systems-building and writing comes in handy for various elements of Taozen, alongside his wife, co-founder and best friend Carla.
Outside of Taozen, Fred reads and listens to non-fiction, produces rave and ambient music, keeps attentive each day to overcome his perfectionism, self-doubt and self-deception tendencies, nerds out with AI, biohacking and advanced ancient civilisations, and leads a creative agency working with some of the world’s biggest brands.
Waxy Yawanawá, together with her sister Putanny, became the first ever female pajés (shamans) of the Yawanawá tribe from the Brazilian Amazon.
Waxy is one of the very few women who has completed the sacred one-year muká diet. For the Yawanawa, the muká diet is the most important initiation to become a shaman. It involves ingesting and studying sacred plants such as Ayahuasca, memorising healing songs and prayers, as well as being in complete isolation for lengthy periods of time.
In 2017, Waxy founded Mawa Yuxyn, an institute for spiritual studies in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon jungle. It welcomes everyone who wants to fully experience the Yawanawas’ spirituality, traditions, and indigenous way of life.
Waxy works with Uni (Ayahuasca), Kapum (Kambó), Sananga, Sepá and Rapé. Her rapé is a special one called “the Yawanawá Força Feminina” rapé that represents the female conquest of the Yawanawa women. It is prepared with the ashes from the Tsunu bark, a long and majestic tree considered one of the most sacred of the Yawanawá people.
Sergi is a AC-certified Life Coach with a rich tapestry of experiences ranging from professional football to recruitment, bringing a unique blend of discipline, teamwork, and personal development skills to his current passion: guiding individuals through their transformative ayahuasca journeys.
His approach is deeply rooted in a holistic understanding of personal growth, combining his extensive experience in coaching on personal development and relationships with a profound respect for the ayahuasca ceremony's spiritual dimensions.
His mission is to support you in navigating this powerful experience with insight, care, and a deep commitment to your personal journey.
Susy was reborn after a long battle with cancer, which caused a complete change in the direction of her career and purpose in life.
Susy is now an integrative therapist specialising in neuroscience and mental health, emotional intelligence and behaviour, as well as a facilitator of sacred plant medicine retreats.
Susy studied a master's in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) with the creator of the technique, Dr. Richard Bandler, and she is currently finalising a postgraduate degree in Integrative Functional Medicine, deepening her knowledge of one of the greatest illnesses of the century: mental health.
She is the author of “Be Your Own Miracle”, where she recounts her life and her experience with cancer, giving insights into how to overcome the challenges posed by the cancer treatment through the mind.
Susy is also a facilitator of Access Bars, PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy), a Tuning Forks Practitioner, an Essential Oils educator and has a specialisation in level 2 of NCFE CACHE (the UK's leading sector specialist in health, care and education) in mental and emotional health by the British Government in London.
In addition, she is a student of the sacred plant medicines of the Yawanawa tribe.
Following her passion for food, Eva acquired her Masters in Health and Nutrition after studying Human Nutrition and Dietetics at The University of Lleida, Spain.
Since 2013, Eva has been working as the head chef of a traditional Catalan vegetarian restaurant. In addition to this position, she has also worked in a vegan restaurant, as well as two other restaurants based on traditional Spanish cuisine.
Since 2016, Eva has also led a variety of workshops and classes about the different types of cuisine Spain has to offer. In both her cuisine and lessons, Eva focuses on holistic health and how different ingredients affect our bodies in a positive or negative way.
We have found that the simplest way to approach the ayahuasca diet is to eat a light and generally vegan diet. Therefore, given her expertise, we are very lucky to have Eva in charge of our retreats’ kitchen taking care of us all.
Riviera is a dedicated movement facilitator and bodyworker who is passionate about helping individuals achieve holistic well-being and tap into their body's natural healing abilities.
Born and raised in the Mexican Caribbean, she developed a deep fascination with the human body's potential for movement and self-restoration from an early age, sparking a lifelong passion for exploring its intricacies.
Riviera's extensive educational journey includes formal training and certifications in a variety of movement and embodiment practices, such as Yoga, Butoh, Dance improvisation, Bowspring , Physical Theatre, Ostheo Dance (Wúo Taï), Ai Chi, Tuina Massage, Watsu, and Embodiment tools, among others.

CEREMONY LEADER & MUSICIAN YAWANAWA TRIBE (BRAZIL)
Wasaru is one of the “wild boar people”; this is what Yawanawá means. For many years, he has been a guardian of the Yawanawá spirituality and a musician of traditional Yawanawá songs.
Together with his wife pajé Waxy Yawanawá, Wasaru leads traditional healing rituals using different plants and sacred medicines from his homeland, the Brazilian Amazon.
He works with “Uni” (commonly known as Ayahuasca) and “Rumê” (known as Rapé). Their Rapé contains ashes from the bark of the Tsunu tree mixed with pure tobacco.
Wasaru also serves “Kapum” (commonly known as Kambó) to cleanse and purify the body, Sananga made from the bark of the root of Tabernaemontana genus and used to open the third eye vision, and Sepá, an incense made with the sap of a tree mostly used in ceremonies to protect and clear the space from negative energies.
Yawanawás are specialists in the art of playing music and Wasaru is one of the musicians that helps keep their ancestral knowledge alive. His songs are protection spells; they also translate traditional stories and share the Yawanawá knowledge about the connection to the land, the reverence for the spirits, and the resilience of the Amazonian indigenous communities in the face of contemporary challenges. His music is composed of voice, guitar and drums.
MEDICAL DOCTOR WITH PSYCHIATRY BACKGROUND
Charlotte is a medical doctor who has worked in England’s National Health Service (NHS) since 2014. She has worked in Psychiatry and trained in Anthroposophical Psychotherapy. She currently works holistically combining a mind, body, soul, spirit approach.
Dr. Bamber has been working with psychedelics personally since 2013 and her journey with ayahuasca began in 2020. She started supporting people in altered states of consciousness in 2019 with the charity PsyCareUK, a psychedelic crisis service at festivals, as a space holder, Team Leader and most recently Coordinator. She has also been supporting private clients in Psychedelic Integration since 2023.
Dr. Bamber is passionate about preparation for and integration of Psychedelic experiences, to ensure safety and maximise the potential benefit of the experience. Her calm and grounded Zen-like quality brings a loving supportive energy to the team.
Charlotte is also present at our Taozen Enhanced Retreats as both a space holder with first-aid experience, and one of the preparation and integration specialists. In addition to her presence and help during the retreat, she also offers longer term psychotherapy and integration sessions online post-retreat.

Dr. Jake Wright DO, a distinguished Australian Doctor of Osteopath, is AHPRA-certified and honed his expertise with 5 years of rigorous training at RMIT University (B.Clin.Sci, B.Sci.). Additionally, as an Advanced Instructor with the Oxygen Advantage, Jake seamlessly incorporates breathwork coaching into his osteopathic practice.
Dedicated to making breathwork an integral part of daily life, Jake employs a holistic approach, amalgamating traditional osteopathy and breathwork with contemporary strength & conditioning concepts. This ensures comprehensive injury management and rehabilitation, ultimately elevating physical performance and enhancing the quality of life for his clients.
Recognizing the need for conscious awareness in holistic health, Jake founded the "Show Up" community. This initiative aims to enlighten individuals about beneficial practices that can positively impact their lives. Jake's vast experience encompasses working with clients from diverse sporting backgrounds such as surfing, swimming, snow sports, strength disciplines (like CrossFit, bodybuilding, and powerlifting), football, running, rock-climbing, and combat sports.
Dr. Jake will be present during the retreat guiding the breathwork and ice baths sessions.

Accommodation
